About Alma Plate
Allison - Founder of Alma Plate

The name 'Alma' comes from the Latin route 'almus' - meaning 'nourishing'. Alma Plate aims to grow our community's access to nourishing food. We support food systems that nourish people as well as the planet.

Allison created the vision for Alma Plate in 2007. From 2012-2016 Alma Plate ran as a weekly food market out of Allison's garage. After 7 year break where Allison has been building on her teaching skills, Alma Plate is back in 2025 to offer food coaching and food skills education.

Alma Plate's food philosophy is pretty simple.  Get as close to a food’s source as possible - know who and where it comes from, and how it is produced. Then, do as little as possible to the produce in the kitchen to turn it into delicious meals.

Putting this philosophy into action is not simple! Alma Plate endeavours to help others on their food journey. Together we can continue to sustain food systems that sustain us.
